The workspace

Open a broker and the workspace shows it in a tab: the list on the left, and on the right the topic, the consumer group or, when nothing is selected, the arrival report.

The arrival report

The moment the broker answers, Marshall reports what he found: how many topics, which dead-letter queues hold messages, which consumer groups have nobody in them, and what he could not see.

The list

From top to bottom:

  • Pinned topics. Pin the ones you watch; pins are kept per broker.
  • Dead letters. Topics and queues recognized as dead-letter queues, first, because that is usually why you are here.
  • Topics, grouped into folders by the first segment of their names (orders.events and orders.dlq land in orders). Where am I looking? explains the levels: broker, folder, topic. Marshall made up the folders from the names; the broker has no such thing.
  • Consumer groups, on Kafka.
  • Can't see: what Marshall could not read on this broker, and why.

Topics with an under-replicated partition are tagged Under-replicated. Kafka's internal topics (like __consumer_offsets) are hidden unless you turn on Show Kafka's internal topics.

Broker › Refresh Topics (⌘ R) asks the broker again.

Topic notes

Select a topic and, until you pick a message, the right side shows his notes on it.

Tabs

Each broker stays in its own tab with its own selection. Close this broker (⇧ ⌘ W) closes the tab; the broker itself is left as it was.

Marshall MQ is free for personal and commercial use.
